Manchester United are bracing themselves for a mega bid for two of their biggest assets, with Real Madrid reportedly waiting in the wings.

Los Blancos are drawing up their summer plans already and are believed to be targeting a striker to replace Karim Benzema. The Frenchman has not been very prolific for a few years now. Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich and Tottenhm star Harry Kane are among the targets, but a new name has emerged and it will not please United fans.

Marcus Rashford has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top after breaking into the first team at Old Trafford under Louis van Gaal two seasons ago. He has become a first team regular under Jose Mourinho, either up front or out wide; the future certainly looks bright for the youngster and Don Balon is reporting Zinedine Zidane has his eye on him. Kane remains the priority, they say, but should Spurs demand too much for him, his international teammate Rashford will become the focus.

That name may have come out of the blue to an extent, considering how much potential Rashford has to fulfil to become a top player. But the other man wanted in Madrid is someone many expected to have made the switch a long time ago. David de Gea was all set to move to the Santiago Bernabeu on the final day of the transfer window in 2015, but for a paperwork issue to take the deal past the deadline without completion. The Spain stopper subsequently signed a new deal with the Red Devils and has remained a key part of the team, both under van Gaal and now Mourinho.

Two years ago, United were struggling as a club, lacking direction. Now, they look like heading back to the top. They are in the hunt for their first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson retired four years ago and look strong in the Champions League too. It is not guaranteed that de Gea will want the move now as much as he did before, but having never been fully convinced by Keylor Navas, Real are going to try and lure the man many believe is the best goalkeeper in the world right now back to his homeland.

United will not want to lose either of these two stars, so it will be very interesting to watch this saga unfold in the next transfer window.
