Real Madrid could shun main target after mystery message
David De Gea’s summer move from Manchester United to Real has been plunged into doubt following a storm involving the Spain goalkeeper and a Whatsapp message, per the Daily Star.
De Gea, 26, has been heavily linked with a move to Los Blancos two years after a paperwork issue scuppered a deal to take him to the Santiago Bernabeu.
But he grew up at Atletico Madrid, Real’s rivals and Champions League semi final opponents, leaving them for United in 2011.
Now he is reported to have sent a message to an unnamed Atletico player offering support ahead of the big European clash, which has left Real officials fuming.
Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is said to have agreed to let the deal involving De Gea happen and has already drawn up a list of potential replacements.
In the summer of 2015, Keylor Navas was set to be involved in a swap deal, but the likes of Kasper Schmeichel, son of United legend Peter, and Manchester City’s Joe Hart have been linked.
