Real Madrid offer star player to Arsenal and Chelsea: Wenger and Conte could make surprise transfer
Real Madrid are readying moves to offload forward Karim Benzema and have offered the player to both Arsenal and Chelsea according to the Metro.
The report suggests that Real president Florentino Perez is growing tired of the 29-year-old’s lack of form this season, compared to previous years, having only netted 12 times for the La Liga leaders.
Fans booed the Frenchman during the 2-0 win over Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu, adding fuel to speculation that he could depart in the summer.
Arsenal have been linked in the past, and while boss Arsene Wenger distanced himself from a move, per Sky Sports, Metro say the Gunners are in the race alongside Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Benzema’s club mate and striker rival Alvaro Morata has also been linked with both clubs, per Goal, having worked with Blues boss Antonio Conte during a successful stint at Juventus.
It remains to be seen how Los Blancos would react if Benzema did depart, with Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero a possible option, as ESPN reported in November.
Benzema moved to the Spanish capital from Lyon back in 2009 and has racked up 173 goals in 344 appearances for the Spanish giants, helping the club to one La Liga title and two Champions League triumphs in the process.
