Real Madrid consider huge double swoop to pip Premier League clubs to exciting Monaco pairPublished February 24, 2017
Real Madrid have joined the race to sign Monaco stars Bernardo Silva and Kylian Mbappe after watching the duo shine against Manchester City in midweek.
The gifted pair, 18 and 22 respectively, have been in sensational form so far this season, alerting many of the continent’s top teams to their progress- and continued their impressive campaigns at the Etihad on Tuesday evening.
Striker Mbappe, who has been dubbed the ‘new Henry’ in France in light of his long stride length and composed finishing, scored in the Champions League first leg, while attacking midfielder Silva pulled the strings in a display full of creative intent.
Spanish outlet MARCA claims that this has not gone unnoticed at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, as Real scour Europe for top young talent to complement experienced stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos.
The paper adds that after missing out on Ousmane Dembele and Alexander Isak to Borussia Dortmund over the past six months, Los Blancos are determined not to let other top young talents slip through their fingers this summer.
Both Silva and Mbappe are rated at £50m by Monaco, who are currently sat above Paris Saint-Germain in 1st place in the Ligue 1 table.
A host of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea, have expressed a particular interest in acquiring Mbappe- the Monegasques’ youngest ever scorer- although news of Real’s potential involvement comes as a blow to those attempting to persuade the versatile forward that his next step should be a move to England.
Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, meanwhile, are reportedly keen on Portuguese international Silva. The playmaker has eight goals and five assists already so far this season.
