Real Madrid to battle Chelsea line-up £75m bids for world's most lethal finisher
Real Madrid and Chelsea are set to fight it out in pursuit of Man City forward Sergio Aguero according to the Daily Mirror.
The 28-year-old forward is arguably the most lethal finisher in football but is seemingly a player who could be set for an imminent transfer.
Man City boss Pep Guardiola has opted to put the Argentine international on the bench in recent matches, last week being left out of the starting eleven as the big-spending side swept past West Ham in a 4-0 thumping, and the arrival of Gabriel Jesus could lead some to question Aguero’s future at the Etihad Stadium.
Some are of the belief that Aguero isn’t as sharp as he used to be but it’s worth noting that he has bagged an astonishing 18 goals from 20 starts in all competitions this term.
A move back to Spain could tempt Aguero and the front-man was a big success in La Liga with Atletico prior to his move to England.
Chelsea’s interest could also tempt Aguero though one imagines a move abroad could be more plausible, with Man City surely reticent about selling to a direct rival.
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane may feel Aguero is a better fit to play a central role, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale out wide, than current first-choice striker Karim Benzema and the Spanish side have the funds to make a big offer that Man City could accept in order to help mitigate what is sure to be another big-spending summer.
Aguero has become a cult figure at Man City, famously scoring a Premier League title winning goal deep into injury time against QPR, and his tally of 154 goals in 233 appearances is an impressive one to say the least and a fee of £75m would be almost double the fee paid for the player back in 2011.
