Raheem Sterling to be used as a makeweight in Alexis Sanchez deal
Manchester City have made an incredible player-plus-cash offer for Alexis Sanchez, according to reports.
They have offered £50 million signing from Liverpool, Raheem Sterling, and cash in hope of signing the Chile international before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Despite only having one year left on his contract, Arsenal say Sanchez will not be sold this summer. That, of course, means the player could leave next summer for free.
Sterling has started the season well, scoring the winner at Bournemouth and equaliser against Everton. But this will be a major surprise for the player, who has worked on developing his game and become a star under Pep Guardiola.
I can see no reason why Raheem Sterling would be happy to be used as a makeweight in this deal, or why he’d want to join us right now.— arseblog (@arseblog) 29 August 2017
As suggested above by Andrew Mangan, founder of Arseblog, it is doubtful that Sterling even wants to join Arsenal, who are a complete mess at the moment.
City would also be losing out on a young homegrown player with time on his side to become a top player, albeit they will gain one of the best attackers in the league with Sanchez.
Several reports suggest Manchester United are also interested in the Chilean, so the coming days will be exciting. Especially if there is a repeat of the Dimitar Berbatov deadline day show.
