Raheem Sterling And Kyle Walker Troll Man City After Substitution Against Schalke

Manchester City won the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Schalke in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night, with a Raheem Sterling strike coming late in the day to complete a stunning comeback. But he and England teammate Kyle Walker stole the show with their strong social media game after the whistle had gone.

It proved to be a tougher night than many expected at the Veltins Arena. City took the lead through Sergio Agüero before two penalties, shrouded in VAR controversy, were scored by former Tottenham midfielder Nabil Bentaleb gave the hosts a half time lead.

Nicolas Otamendi was sent off with just over 20 minutes remaining to make matters worse before former Schalke man Leroy Sane’s free kick, and then Sterling, saved the day.

But fans were left in hysterics after both Walker and Sterling picked up on the picture of Oleksandr Zinchenko replacing Kevin De Bruyne in the second half. It is well known that the pair look very similar, and both men made reference to that, with Walker posting a well known meme and Sterling simply claiming to “see no difference”.

Back on the pitch, it looks like City have the advantage in the tie, with three away goals likely to take the pressure off the game at the Etihad Stadium in three weeks time.

Pep Guardiola, who cannot have been happy with parts of the game in Germany, has always denied that City can win an unprecedented quadruple, cut they look like making the step towards a first Champions League crown. They currently sit top of the Premier League, and can tick the first off the list in the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday at Wembley.

Sterling’s ability to strike late has been crucial to City’s success in the last couple of years. He looks like he’s really fulfilling his potential under Guardiola. Walker, too, has grown into a better player than many suggested he would be. Funnily enough, the first player to celebrate with Sterling when he scored was a certain De Bruyne lookalike…
