Premier League goalkeeper Arsenal's surprising choice to replace Cech
Arsenal want to bring Kasper Schmeichel to the Emirates Stadium this summer, with a view to the Dane replacing Petr Cech between the sticks, per the Daily Express.
Cech, 34, arrived in the summer of 2015 billed as the answer to the Gunners’ long-standing goalkeeping problem. but there have been growing reports that he could be usurped as number one after just two years.
Schmeichel. 30, has become very highly-rated in that time after helping Leicester City secure their remarkable Premier League title success last season.
A number of clubs are said to be keen on the Dane, including his father Peter’s former club Manchester United, but the report claims Arsenal will meet the Red Devils head on in their pursuit of a deal.
But with Arsene Wenger yet to renew his contract, which runs out at the end of the season, the Gunners’ plans ahead of the summer are largely unknown.
Leicester, meanwhile, would likely demand a hefty fee to part with one of their prized assets.
