It has been clear for some time now that Lukaku would be leaving Old Trafford this summer. The Belgian wasn’t wanted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season, and a new contract signed by Marcus Rashford made it clear he was going to be the main striker for the coming season.
But even they realised they needed a replacement, and they did try to use Lukaku as part of a deal with Juventus, which would have seen Paulo Dybala head to United. The Argentine rejected the switch over wages and agents fees, while a move for Mario Mandzukic fell down on Thursday. Lukaku then joined Inter for £73million.
