Paul Scholes has weighed in once and for all on the Lionel Messi/Cristiano Ronaldo debate, and his answer may well just have ended it.
As a player both have admitted looking up to in the past, Scholes is well placed to give his opinion on the rivalry which has transcended modern football and dominated individual awards for ten years.
When asked for his three favourite players to watch, Ronaldo’s former Manchester United teammate admitted he liked Real Madrid pair Luka Modric and Toni Kroos before going into detail on Messi and the Portuguese superstar.
“Modric, [Toni] Kroos, Messi. Watching Messi against Tottenham at Wembley made me think about the Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo debate again,” Scholes said.
“Messi (is the best) but Ronaldo is brilliant. Ronaldo is sensational at what he does, with pace and power.
“He scores, he takes free-kicks. But as an all-round footballer, Messi – wow, his passing – has absolutely everything.
Even Lionel Messi would struggle in this Manchester United team, according to Paul Scholes.
