Opta Predicts The Final Premier League Table
For much of the Premier League season, it has felt like there was plenty of certainty. Liverpool we’re destined to win their first title for 30 years, while Norwich were looking doomed to yet another relegation back to the Championship. But the coronavirus pandemic has thrown everything up in the air.
Football has been postponed until the end of April at the earliest, but there is no real concrete plans for everything to get back to normal, with the entire United Kingdom still on lockdown. There is the possibility that the season won’t be finished, but everyone is committed to finding a way through the crisis and getting to a conclusion.

Assuming that happens, Opta Stats have provided a final table which their data has predicted, and there aren’t too many surprises in it. Despite the fears that they may be denied the opportunity to celebrate the title they are so close to winning officially, Liverpool will close it out with a record points total of 101, 21 points ahead of current champions Manchester City. Leicester City and Chelsea will complete the top four.
At the bottom, Norwich will be joined in going down by Aston Villa and Bournemouth, with Brighton and Watford among those to narrowly avoid the drop. Arguably the biggest disappointment is Sheffield United’s expected drop off in form.
Currently well in the race for Champions League qualification, Opta suggest Chris Wilder’s men will end the campaign with a whimper by picking up just 12 points from their remaining ten games. Whatever happens, though, everyone just wants football to return as soon as possible.
