Jose Mourinho sees the 25-year-old French international as a replacement for out of favour star Wayne Rooney and it will take a fee of around £80m to secure the former Real Sociedad man, a massive sum especially when you consider the amount the Man United boss spent over the summer.

The additions of Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly set the Premier League back in excess of £150m and the club currently sits seventh place in the table after an up and down time of it thus far.

Griezmann may well be tempted by a high-profile Premier League move that would undoubtedly result in a big pay-rise, however Manchester United would surely have to have secured a Champions League return before they can pull off this deal.

Wayne Rooney has been left languishing on the bench in recent weeks and his future at Man United looks up in the air and the club’s board may be keen to offload their skipper given he is receiving a massive £300k+ a week.

Griezmann has proven a big success since moving to the Vicente Calderon, racking up 63 goals in 115 appearances, and finished the Euro 2016 finals as the top-scorer.

Mourinho may look to use Griezmann in a front three in a central role, perhaps as a long-term replacement for veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It helps that Man United signed Paul Pogba over the summer, the rangy midfielder being good friends with his fellow countryman Griezmann, and such a capture would prove to be another big statement of intent from a club looking to recapture the glory years they enjoyed under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jose Mourinho has some very exciting young talents to fill positions in the final third with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial being very capable of making an impact in the present whilst also being real prospects for the future.

Griezmann ably covers a number of roles though is now more effective in a central role, preferably with others around him, feeding off his efforts, and is certainly worth his reported price-tag.
