Manxbesfer United are stepping up their summer recruitment drive by making a bid of £70million for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire. The England man is a long-term target at Old Trafford, but they failed to lure him last summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjær is desperate to strengthen his defence this summer and has set his sights on him again.
But there are no signs that it’ll be any easier to get Maguire than before. United’s bid has been rejected already, according to Sky Sports News. The Foxes are desperate to keep their man, and as a team aiming to challenge the top six this season and potentially overtake United, it is easy to see why.

Crucially, there is no need for the money; even if Maguire wants the move, it’ll be tough to convince Leicester to sell. They want more than the current defensive record transfer, £75million paid by Liverpool to Southampton for Virgil Van Dijk, and have even been reported to demand £100million. Manchester City are also interested.
Whatever happens next, the ball is in Solskjær’s court. It isn’t hard to see why he is so keen on Maguire; a hungry, England defender who can play out from the back and dominate in the air.
There isn’t much doubt he would improve the back line, where both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have struggled so badly in recent times. But many fans have voiced their concerns about the amount needed to sign Maguire, a player who has never played in European competition. Not only will United be back in the Europa League this year, but they’ll be challenging for a Champions League spot.
It’ll be interesting to see whether United go back in for Maguire again, but City haven’t given up as they hunt a replacement for the departed Vincent Kompany. There is much more to come from this saga, which threatens to roll on as the new season approaches.
