Manchester United scout Benfica star Victor Lindelof at the Lisbon derbyPublished December 14, 2016
Manchester United scouts were in attendance at the Estadio Da Luz for Sunday night’s Lisbon derby, the Manchester Evening News reports. They were there to watch Benfica defender Victor Lindelof shine in their 2-1 victory over city rivals Sporting Lisbon. The development is seen as United stepping up their interest in the Swedish centre-half.
Lindelof played the full match and is a defensive target for Jose Mourinho. The Special One wants to bolster his defence with two signings in January. Eric Bailly is heading off to the African Cup of Nations and Mourinho wants a defender with a world-class reputation. Lindelof’s compatriot Zlatan Ibrahimovic thinks that he’s ready to play for United or any big club that wants to sign him.
He said: “Is he good enough for United? I think he’s good enough for the big clubs out there. It’s up to him what he wants and what the situation says. Whatever he chooses will be good for him.” The 22-year-old has made 18 appearances for Benfica this season. He’s unlikely to leave in January.
