Manchester United & Real Madrid close in on £145m pair transfer: One deal almost agreed and second on the cards
Manchester United are close to agreeing a £145million swoop for two Real Madrid stars as Jose Mourinho steps up the rebuilding of his squad ahead of next season.
The Red Devils have already clinched a deal for long-term target Victor Lindelof from Benfica, while Mourinho’s former midfielder Nemanja Matic is also on the verge of a move from Chelsea. Inter’s Ivan Perisic is also wanted at Old Trafford, but he could cost as much as £50million if Moutinho wants to lure him from the San Siro.
It is already patently clear that Mourinho is planning on spending huge amounts of money, whether they can strike this double deal with Los Blancos. The players in question from Spain may not surprise fans, but they will excite them. Having been intensely linked in the past two weeks, United are finally close to signing Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez.
Both players have endured a tough season at the Santiago Bernabeu under Zinedine Zidane. While the team made history by winning their first LaLiga title in five years and becoming the first team to defend the Champions League trophy since the competition’s 1992 rebrand, Morata and Rodriguez were restricted to bit-part roles having never really been favoured by Zidane.
As a result, both are on the lookout for new clubs this summer. Morata is a particularly big target for Mourinho, having worked with him when in charge of Real, and there have been reports of bids already being lodged for the 24-year-old. Despite his current club looking to make it tough for United to sign him, upping his price tag to £80million according to The Sun, the Red Devils remain confident of securing a deal.
Rodriguez, 25, has been in Madrid since 2014 when, after impressing at that summer’s World Cup for Colombia, he signed from Monaco for £73million. He enjoyed life under former boss Carlo Ancelotti, but after his 2015 sacking struggled to get any rhythm under Rafa Benitez, something that has continued until now.
If Morata has left his honeymoon to get his move to united done he is showing more commitment to us than his new wife ? #divorce— BoyWonderRashford ? (@RedRashford19) June 27, 2017
A number of clubs are believed to be interested in the playmaker, but United are now the clear favourites for his signature. It had been suggested Real had seeked them out to offer Rodriguez to them, and if they recoup as much as the reported £60millon for him, there is little doubt Florentino Perez will be happy.
If these deals do indeed go through, it will make the UEFA Super Cup meeting in August all the more interesting.
