Manchester United plot daring Alaba raidPublished November 21, 2016
David Alaba has emerged as a serious transfer target for Manchester United, with the Old Trafford club keen on bringing in a new top-class left-back to replace Luke Shaw.
Widely deemed to be the best in the world in his position, the Austrian defender has entered the radar of United boss Jose Mourinho, who appears keen to add to his options in defence during the January window.
Recently, Mourinho chose to publicly criticise the commitment of normal first-choice Luke Shaw, calling into question the England international’s future at the club.
And the Sunday People (via the Daily Mirror) writes that the Portuguese tactician has instructed scouts to track the progress of Alaba, 24, as he seeks a long-term replacement for the former Southampton man.

United representatives were in attendance at both Austria games during the recent international break, with Alaba and teammate Julian Baumgartlinger believed to be the players of interest to the club’s scouting department.
Contracted until 2021 and also courted by Real Madrid, though, a potential switch from the Allianz Arena to north west England is far from certain for Alaba, who remains highly-rated by the Bundesliga champions.
Baumgartliner, meanwhile, was scouted as a possible solution to the Red Devils’ woes in the centre of the park.
The energetic midfielder only joined current club Bayer Leverkusen over the summer, but could be the subject of a January bid from United as Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger head for the Old Trafford exit door.
