Manchester United plot audacious £87m bid for in-form Arsenal star: Jose Mourinho ready to take advantage of contract stand-off
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will instruct chief executive Ed Woodward to make a move Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez as the Old Trafford side looks to take full advantage of an impasse in contract negotiations between the Chilean and his north London employers.
Alexis has been in outstanding form of late and this has come at a time that both he, and fellow team-mate Mesut Ozil, are discussing terms on new Arsenal contracts.
By all accounts the former Barcelona man wants a salary in the same ball-park as the likes of Paul Pogba and Wayne Rooney, around £300k a week, and that’s a figure the North London side are reticent to cover.
Sanchez is currently on a deal worth around £130k that runs out in 18 months time and is in a position of power and Manchester United are now interested in making an offer for the South American.
Mourinho is a big fan of Sanchez but knows that any offer next summer would only prove successful if Man United have Champions League to offer.
Manchester United are ready to offer as much as £87m, with Sanchez now as high a priority as long-term target Antoine Griezmann.
Sanchez has racked up 11 goals in 14 Premier League starts this term and is reaching his peak and if Arsenal were to fail in their pursuit of a domestic title then perhaps a move to another English side would be plausible.
Man United are ready to meet Sanchez’s salary expectations and Arsenal are well used to losing their top talents, even to domestic rivals, and a combination of a failed title challenge and an unwillingness to fork out the cash to reward their top stars could make such a move a distinct possibility.
