Morgan Schneiderlin will reportedly undergo a medical at Everton’s Finch Farm training ground on Friday afternoon, as he closes in on a Manchester United exit.

The towering Frenchman has been unable to break into Jose Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford since joining for a £24 fee in the summer of 2015, and with several other sides interested in a January transfer, it appears as though Ronald Koeman’s Everton have won the race for his signature.

The Manchester Evening News claims that the 27-year-old is currently on Merseyside for a medical, before completing the formalities of a big-money switch to Goodison Park.

It is understood that at this stage no fee has been agreed between the two clubs- indeed, Everton are still to return with an improved bid after seeing an initial offer of £19m rejected by Old Trafford officials- but personal terms have already been finalised with the Zellwiller-born star and his representatives and a second bid in the region of £22m is reportedly forthcoming.

West Brom and Marseille were also keen on acquiring the French international, who developed into one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders during his seven-year stint at Southampton. However, former manager Koeman’s presence at Goodison, combined with the Blues’ higher standing in the Premier League look to have been enough to convince the Les Bleus midfielder to swap Manchester for Liverpool.

Last month, the Everton boss seemed to hint at a potential move for his former charge.

“I don’t speak about players. I saw the [West Brom] stories,” he said. “I speak to [Director of Football] Steve Walsh and the board about what we need to do in January, you will see what happens. Of course I know Morgan, we worked one season together then he went to Man United.”

And now it appears as though the pair will be reunited in L4 in time to see Schneiderlin cover for key man Idrissa Gueye, who has left to join up with Senegal for their African Cup of Nations campaign.

The news caps a memorable few days for Everton, who yesterday sealed the signing of exciting England youth international Ademola Lookman from Charlton for an initial fee of £7.5m and also confirmed a multi-million pound sponsorship deal with Russian group USM holdings.
