Manchester United linked with move for Liverpool star in arguably the stupidest transfer rumour of the summer thus far
26-year-old pint sized performer Allen enjoyed a strong showing at Euro 2016, featuring in UEFA’s team of the tournament, but he is still very much a bit part player at Anfield and has just 12-months to run on his current deal.
Allen started just eight Premier League fixtures last season and may not be Jurgen Klopp’s cup of tea but interest from arch-rivals from Old Trafford is hard to fathom.
Jose Mourinho has wasted no time in shuffling his Manchester United pack and has spent considerable sums to bring in Eric Bailly from Villarreal, Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund and snapped up free agent Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
So is there any chance the former Chelsea boss would take an interest in Liverpool man Allen? We simply can’t see how the former Swansea City man would even appear on Mourinho’s radar.
This isn’t to say Allen doesn’t have his qualities, indeed when called upon by Klopp the intelligent central midfielder was not found wanting, but the idea that Mourinho would seek to sign a Liverpool player in his first summer as Manchester United boss just doesn’t stack up.
We reckon Allen’s agent has something to do with this ‘story’ perhaps in the hope that fictitous interest in his client could lead to a new deal for the Welshman.
