Manchester United started the season in uncertain fashion but recent results have propelled the Old Trafford side back towards the top four and Jose Mourinho is keen to keep that push on track and has been handed funds to invest in his squad.
The majority of the targets outlined by Sky Sports are of a defensive nature with the following being the most effective options available to Mourinho.
Victor Lindelof (Benfica)
The Swedish international is set to complete a long awaited move to Man United where he will join national team colleague Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Jose Fonte (Southampton)
The veteran centre-back enjoyed a superb Euro 2016 campaign and is a player Mourinho rates highly and would presumably be a relatively cheap addition given his advancing years.
Michael Keane (Burnley)
The former Man United man has become a mainstay of the Clarets back-line and is now on the verge of England national team recognition.
Antonio Rudiger (AS Roma)
The German international impressed whilst at Stuttgart and has been a solid performer since moving to the Italian capital but could be tempted by a move to the Premier League.
Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)
Another defensive veteran and a player with a great level of experience and given just how poorly his Vicente Calderon side is performing the Uruguayan would surely jump at the chance of a high-profile exit, and no doubt a big pay-hike.
Leon Bailey (Genk)
The teenage Jamaican winger is said to be a Man United target but one wonders if there is any urgency to a January move for the Belgian based wide-man?
Goncalo Guedes (Benfica)
20-year-old attacker is said to be closing on a move to Valencia but this source suggests Man United could beat the La Liga strugglers to the punch.
Andre Silva (FC Porto)
The 21-year-old forward is having an exceptional season, bagging ten goals in Primeira Liga action this term, as well as four goals in five Portuguese national team appearances.
The youngster could be seen as a long-term replacement for veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic and could be used in a youthful front three alongside Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
Mourinho’s links with FC Porto, the club he led to Champions League glory, could aid any potential transfer push.
One imagines that Jose Mourinho will be told to offload some deadwood in order to balance the books, not least as the Portuguese boss spent upwards of £150m over the summer, and Manchester United can certainly look to bring in significant funds from the sales of a number of stars.
Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin are said to be genuine Everton targets whilst Bastian Schweinsteiger could be MLS bound.
The likes of Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and even Wayne Rooney must be considering their position at the Premier League giants, given their relative lack of first-team action.
