Manchester United have not yet given up on a deal to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, despite persistent rumours that he will be joining Barcelona. The Frenchman has made clear his desire to leave the Wanda Metropolitano, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to make a last-ditch attempt to lure him to the Premier League.
It had been thought, as soon as Griezmann made his feelings known, that he would be moving to the Blaugrana. But stalls on that front have cast doubt and opened the door to other interested parties.

Barcelona reportedly saw Griezmann as a replacement or alternative to Luis Suarez, who will turn 33 in the next year, but a deal to sign him will cost a lot of money, with a £95million price tag being mooted. Though Atletico appear willing to let the player leave, they certainly won’t do so on the cheap.
Money isn’t explicitly said to be a problem for United and Solskjaer this summer, though a swoop for Griezmann would probs quite jarring with his other reported targets. Many believe United are looking to target young, hungry British players this summer, having already signed winger Dan James from Swansea City, after a number of big name stars failed to live up to the billing in recent times. But Griezmann would be another eye catching signing that would prove a huge financial risk if he didn’t hit the ground running.
One of those big name flops, Alexis Sanchez, has been linked with Atletico as a possible Griezmann replacement. Whether United could tie him into any deal remains to be seen, and it must be remembered that Barcelona are still in the driving seat. Griezmann seems to regret staying in Madrid and signing a new contract, after both United and Barça chased him last summer.
