Manchester United will be cleared in their pursuit of Brazilian superstar Neymar when the Paris Saint-Germain forward when a new clause becomes active in the summer. After an injury hit season in France, a report in Spanish publication Don Balon has suggested he could be set for a huge switch to the Premier League.

The former Barcelona man has had a mixed time at PSG, with injuries being a constant issue for him to contend with. Having also endured a public falling out with teammate Edinson Cavani, which threatened to derail his entire debut season, there have also been questions over his commitment. Speculation that he would like to return to Barcelona have also been rife, but the Catalans are unlikely to be able to afford him after PSG paid his £200million buyout clause in 2017.

The decision to leave in the first place was said to centre on getting out of Lionel Messi’s shadow in order to win the Ballon d’Or. But after his move, his lack of consistency and the emergence of Kylian Mbappe in Paris, means he isn’t necessarily the most likely to be crowned the best in the world at his club. To make things worse on a personal point of view, after missing the Champions League defeat to Manchester United in February, Messi is most likely to win another personal title this year.

Perhaps, then, Neymar, will look to move and make a fresh start. The Premier League would obviously be an attractive prospect, and United would be a good move if he wants to stand out from the crowd.

He would certainly be an upgrade on the wingers at Old Trafford, particularly Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial, who have been particularly heavily criticised this season. PSG, though, would be loathed to lose their biggest ever signing, especially at a loss, despite his lack of star quality.

Whether he is the right man for United is also doubtful, with the club being criticised for spending heavily on big names, like Sanchez, and not buying the right kind of player to help add chemistry to the team.

Also, with no Champions League football next season, Neymar would have to step away from the top table, which would probably mean abandoning his Ballon d’Or aim for a year at least.
