Things are going from bad to worse for Manchester United forward, Wayne Rooney.
Having already been dropped by Jose Mourinho for United’s last 3 games, it now seems as though the Red Devils and England captain is about to be dropped by his national side too.
Rooney has been massively underperforming for some time now and it looks like the fan pressure, and the media analysis, has seeped into the minds of both club and international bosses, Jose Mourinho and Gareth Southgate.
It seemed as though Rooney’s place in the England starting XI looked more secure, especially with Southgate coming out and stating he would remain as captain.
However, a poor performance at Malta appears to have convinced the caretaker manager to make the change.
The news was confirmed by Sky Sports News presenter Jim White on this morning as he tweeted that Gary Cahill or Jordan Henderson will now captain England in Rooney’s absence.
