Manchester United to beat Chelsea in chase for two Ligue 1 stars
Manchester United are set to beat Chelsea to the signings of Monaco pair Kylian Mbappe and Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer, per reports in the Daily Express.
Both players have risen to prominence this season, helping Monaco to the top of Ligue 1 and into the quarter-finals of the Champions League, both scoring in the 3-1 win over Manchester City on Wednesday, which meant they progressed on away goals after a 6-6 aggregate scoreline.
Mbappe, 18, is among the hottest properties in Europe right now, having scored 17 goals this season, and Bakayoko, 22, appears to fit the bill as the perfect midfield partner for Paul Pogba.
Blues boss Antonio Conte is also said to be keen on the pair, but his predecessor Jose Mourinho, now in charge at Old Trafford, may have stolen a march on him, with a number of bookies making them favourites to land the deals, the Express say.
It would be a hugely impressive summer for the Red Devils if they could secure both players, especially with qualification for the Champions League on a knife edge. Currently sitting sixth in the Premier League, victory in the Europa League may seem like their best chance of a return.
Chelsea, meanwhile, top the table by ten points and look all but certain to clinch their second title in three years.
