That player is, of course, Lionel Messi who is stalling over signing a new Barcelona deal following Neymar’s departure and potentially some consideration over his future.

The Argentine is currently attempting to save his country Argentina from embarrassment in their hopes of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia with the side having to beat Ecuador on Wednesday to go through.

Though, he continues to impress for Barcelona as their slightly new-look attack starts to get to grips with the Spanish top flight, with Gerard Deulofeu returning as well as the signing of Ousmane Dembele as the replacement for Neymar.

The stalling by Messi over his new contract is worrying both for the Camp Nou fans and the Barcelona board who would never be able to show their faces again with a sale of possibly their best ever player in the Argentine.

It was actually announced in the summer that Barcelona had tied the player down to a new deal, something which they announced on their social media pages.

Though, it has recently been revealed by the club that the player hasn’t actually signed the deal, much to the bemusement of all Barcelona supporters as well as all football fans following the announcement of a deal being agreed.

Now, Manchester City are looking to capitalise on that by signing the player in January in a £358 million deal, something which would be incredible considering the player would be free to leave the club in the summer for free.

One massive factor in any deal would no doubt be Pep Guardiola who managed Messi during his extremely successful time as Barcelona manager.

While this still seems extremely unlikely, the whispers are starting to appear and it may be a difficult and tense lead up to the next summer window for Barcelona and their higher-ups.
