Manchester City are "going to buy Leo Messi” in €300m world record deal
Manchester City could be about to pull off the biggest deal in footballing history by bringing Lionel Messi to the Premier League.
Crazy reports on Sunday claim that Pep Guardiola’s side are willing to pay the €300million release clause of Barcelona star Messi in what would completely eclipse Neymar’s move to Paris Saint Germain earlier in the month.
Yahoo Sports France claim that the Cityzens are “going to buy” Messi, leading to the suggestion that the Argentine star will be a Manchester City player in the coming weeks.
Reports of Lionel Messi problems emerged this week when it was revealed that the player hadn’t actually signed the contract extension that was announced back in July and that the signature from the player is still missing.
That lead to several suggestions that the player is waiting on potential recruitment this summer before putting pen to paper after the sale of Neymar Jr left a huge gap in the Barcelona attack, something that was on show against Real Madrid in the Super Copa.
The Catalan giants lost 5-1 over the two legs and it was clear that the Camp Nou side would have to reinvest the majority or all of the Neymar funds to replace the Brazilian and challenge this season.
Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho and Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele are the clubs prime targets but both deals have obstacles and they are both proving difficult to get over the line this summer.
If the club continues to show their vulnerability, Messi could well accept a deal to join Manchester City and join up with Pep Guardiola, should the club trigger his release clause in the coming weeks.
Safe to say, we will all be keeping a close eye on this.
