Man United linked with shock move for Thorgan Hazard as Jose Mourinho looks to find Wayne Rooney replacement
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been linked with a move to sign Borussia Monchengladbach youngster Thorgan Hazard by The Sun.
The 23-year-old Belgian international is of course the younger brother of Chelsea star Eden and is a player who’s stock is rapidly rising.
Thorgan struggled to make an impact during his time at Stamford Bridge, spending pretty much all of his three years at the West London club out on loan, failing to make a single senior competitive appearance.
However the pint-sized attacking midfielder is making waves in Germany.
Hazard helped his German side to secure a Champions League berth for the current campaign and has already racked up four goals and an assist across all competitions in 2016/17 and has forced his way back into Roberto Martinez’s national team set-up.
Many reports suggest that Mourinho is ready to offload Rooney but it may be a bit of a stretch at this stage to suggest Thorgan Hazard is an able replacement for the 31-year-old club captain.
However it’s undeniable that the Bundesliga man has got his career back on track after his relative failure at Chelsea.
Rooney on the other hand appears to be on his way down. The England international hasn’t started any of Man United’s last four Premier League fixtures and whilst Mourinho’s side haven’t impressed over that period it appears his time at the club is nearing an end.
The fact that the now bit-part player earns over £300k a week may well hasten his exit though one wonders who would be willing to fork out a large sum for the off-form attacker.
