Mamadou Sakho could leave Liverpool in January with at least one Premier League club offering him an escape route. The Liverpool Echo reports that West Brom have made their interest clear and will make an offer when the transfer window opens. A loan move is more likely than a permanent one in the short term.
The French defender has been frozen out by Jurgen Klopp after falling out with the German earlier in the year. He was a first choice defender for Liverpool before failing a drugs test in April, a development which resulted in his suspension.
He hasn’t made an appearance for the first team since then.
It’s not simply the failed drugs test behind his demotion. A combination of injuries and disciplinary problems saw Klopp lose faith in Sakho. This was evident when he interrupted a Klopp interview during the summer for comic effect.
The coach’s stony reaction spoke volumes.
