French midfielder Nabil Fekir could stay at Lyon instead of moving to Liverpool or Real Madrid according to president Jean-Michel Aulas.
The player was all but set to move to Liverpool before the World Cup had started, he even had his introductory interview with the club and had chosen his kit number.
Though, it soon became apparent that there was a spanner in the works as details started to come out about his medical and how negotiations with Lyon had gotten back underway.
Soon enough, the French club cancelled negotiations with the Anfield club and decided that they would not do business, at least before the World Cup.
Since then, Real Madrid have been reported to have an interest in the player which could prove to be a massive stumbling block for Liverpool if they were to reopen negotiations after the World Cup has finished.
Fekir still wants @LFC move. His advisors believe it is possible to resurrect restructured deal. Lyon president concedes it could still happen. Asked by BeIN Sports if negotiations with Liverpool are dead, Aulas said: “Nothing is ever completely over in the footballing world.”

Now, Jean-Michel Aulas has even admitted that the player could remain at Lyon.
I had an exchange with him the day after we decided to stop the negotiation with Liverpool, he was very serene,’ Aulas explained to Le Parisien
‘I immediately told him that if he wanted to stay, we could extend. I had said before that we did not need to sell. We have the means to keep Fekir.’
‘The current trend is that we do not let anyone go to have the best team and that we will strengthen it as planned.’
That could certainly have put a spanner in the works for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool.
