The £70m rated Gabon international is a player Jurgen Klopp knows well from his time at the Westfalenstadion and by all accounts the Anfield boss sees the prolific forward as an ideal man to lead his Liverpool attack.
Aubameyang has proven a massive hit since leaving Saint-Etienne for Germany back in 2013, racking up 100 goals in 165 appearances for Dortmund and given the club’s poor form this term a move to the Premier League may prove tempting.
Dortmund under Thomas Tuchel sit in fourth place in the Bundesliga, some 14 points off leaders Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid are known to also court Aubameyang.
Liverpool are keen to sell Daniel Sturridge in order to help fund such a bid and the England international seems likely to leave after a poor spell deputizing for African Nations Bound forward Sadio Mane.
Sturridge has looked toothless in attack this season, scoring just two goals in 13 Premier League appearances, and the former Chelsea and Man City man has struggled with injuries in recent campaigns and is said to be a target of a number of English sides.
Klopp’s side have looked most commanding when playing with a front three comprising Brazilian duo Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane and Sturridge has had to fill the hole whilst Mane has been away with the Senegal national team and has looked a shadow of his usual self.
Any hope of landing Aubameyang would depend on Klopp’s side securing a Champions League spot for next season and that’s an achievement Liverpool very capable of pulling off this season.
