Steven Gerrard has heavily criticised Aaron Ramsey after the Welshman appeared to over-react to a push from Edinson Cavani during Arsenal’s game against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.
The pair confronted each other just before half-time at the Emirates Stadium following what Ramsey deemed to be delaying tactics from the PSG striker as Olivier Giroud tried to take a penalty.
A melee ensued, with the Welshman holding his face following a perceived slap from Cavani.
Replays showed minimal-to-no contact, and when asked about the incident at half-time, BT Sport pundit Gerrard suggested Ramsey would come to regret his reaction.
“Aaron will look back on it and he’ll be slightly embarrassed,” he said.
“I don’t think there’s any need for that reaction.”
“I think he should be a little embarrassed by that. I thought the Welsh are meant to be tough!”
On the pitch, the Gunners played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with the Ligue 1 champions.
After Cavani’s early opener was cancelled out by Giroud’s penalty, Marco Verratti and Alex Iwobi traded own goals in what was an even encounter between the two teams.
Arsenal sit second in Group A; level on points with PSG but with an inferior goal difference.
