Manchester City star Leroy Sané has spoken out about his omission from the Germany squad at the World Cup this summer.
The 22-year-old was expected to thrive in Russia after an impressive season with City. He scored ten Premier League goals and registered 15 assists, the second most in Europe’s top five leagues, as well as winning the title and the PFA Young Player of the Year.
But Joachim Löw shocked the footballing world by leaving him out of the final 23-man squad, along with Bayer Leverkusen pair Bernd Leno and Jonathan Tah and Freiburg striker Nils Petersen.
Sané took to social media to thank fans for their support, while admitting he is disappointed with Löw’s decision.
Germany are among the favourites to win the World Cup again, having done so four years ago in Brazil, beating Argentina 1-0 in the final. They face Sweden, Mexico and South Korea in the group stage.
