Jurgen Klopp savages Jose Mourinho after Man United performance
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hit out at Jose Mourinho for his tactics after Manchester United got a 0-0 draw at Anfield and a point for the second year running.
While Liverpool went out to attack and win the game, Klopp thinks that Mourinho did not do that – and Klopp thinks that he could not get away with the tactics employed by Mourinho, as the fans and board at Liverpool demand a different style of football.
However, Mourinho could be forgiven for pointing out that his side are seven points clear of Liverpool, won two trophies last year and look in far better shape than Klopp’s men – and know how to grind out a result.
That being said, Romelu Lukaku came in for a huge amount of criticism for his performance, and it’s easy to see why given he did virtually nothing all game – and while the service provided was lacking, the old jibe of not being able to score against top sides is once again being levelled at him.
Klopp’s men meanwhile failed to take their guilt-edged chances once again, and that seemed to irk the German as much as Mourinho’s tactics.
The Express report Klopp raged after the game:“They came for a point and they got it.
“You could not play this way at Liverpool but it’s okay for Manchester United. It was obvious they had a more defensive approach. They are happy. We are not happy. They were okay for a point, we wanted three.”
Klopp declined to directly criticise opposing manager Jose Mourinho but the inference was clear.
“We created enough chances to win the game and we could have had a penalty, but we didn’t score.
“They defended with nine players around the box. I don’t judge that … they’re allowed to do it. But it made our job more difficult.”
