Jose Mourinho speaks out about struggling defender
Jose Mourinho has been speaking about defender Luke Shaw’s match time – or lack there of, and has made it very clear that he does not feel the player is fit enough to be in contention for a role in the first team.
Shaw has hardly featured this season under Mourinho, and when he’s played, has looked shaky, and it seems that with a settled back four now, Mourinho doesn’t even feel the need to rush Shaw back to full fitness.
United do have a fixture pile up, but that’s not bothering Mourinho, who has acknowledged the club may be short of players in certain positions – but still does not feel Shaw is ready to feature.
Mourinho said: “You try to have in the squad the players with more minutes, the players in better shape, in better condition.
“In Luke Shaw’s case, even in the game against Reading, when he could have started the game and had 90 minutes, in the morning of the game he was ill and not ready to play.
“So even in that match, which could have been good for him, he was not able to play, so he’s having a difficult period.”
It’s not the first time Shaw’s fitness has been questioned since he joined Manchester United, and with rumours that the club could be willing to let him leave in the summer, the defender will be desperate to prove to his manager he can cut it.
