Jose Mourinho says 'powerful' Schweinsteiger could stay at Man United beyond JanuaryPublished December 02, 2016
Jose Mourinho has admitted that Bastian Schweinsteiger could stay at Manchester United beyond January.
The Special One was speaking at his press conference ahead of the match against Everton on Sunday. Schweinsteiger made his first appearance of the season during the 4-1 win over West Ham in the EFL Cup quarter-final.
It’s been a long climb back for the German midfielder. He was sent to train with the club’s academy side as soon as Mourinho became boss in the summer. It had been made clear that there was no place for him in the squad. But patience was a virtue for Schweinsteiger. He bit his tongue and played the part of good club man, supporting his teammates at every opportunity he could.
Mourinho said: “Of course he can stay beyond January. If you have a contract with the club, you are a powerful one to decide your future.
“In the summer, we tried to make something happen to get him a different future, but he decided to stay in difficult circumstances. He worked for that and he deserved that bit of happiness for the last match.
“In January, he will be the powerful one again, but maybe he will be happier because he is playing. You can see the happiness is from somebody who is so happy and proud with his efforts and determination.
“I am always with people with determination.”
