Jose Mourinho previews Manchester United's Champions League return
Jose Mourinho has previewed Manchester United’s return to the UEFA Champions League.
Despite finishing sixth in the Premier League last season, United gained entry to Europe’s most prestigious competition by winning the Europa League.
Mourinho has already won Champions League twice already, during spells with Inter Milan and FC Porto. The Portuguese will be hoping to go one better than Sir Alex Ferguson by winning a third title this season.
However, United have gone through a difficult transition period since Ferguson’s departure in 2013, yet Mourinho believes the club will always remain a giant.
“It doesn’t matter if the club is 3, 4, 5 or 10 years, a little bit far from that level. It doesn’t matter. The club will be always a giant,” Mourinho explained in an exclusive interview with BT Sport.
“The Champions League night is a unique experience for everyone.
“I have some players without that great experience, I think it will be fabulous for them and the fans to be back in the Champions League and to have the initial three matches to be played at Old Trafford, I think it is fantastic.”
United remain unbeaten in their second season under Mourinho but face an improved Stoke City side this weekend. The club’s Champions League campaign kicks off on Tuesday with a home tie against FC Basel.
