Jose Mourinho knows who he wants Man United to face in Europa League
One thing Jose Mourinho cannot claim to be this season is bored.
That’s because his Manchester United side face a huge amount of games between now and the end of the season should they carry on winning, and the majority of those will be in knockout competitions.
After going into the pot for the draw of the next round of the Europa League, he knew exactly who he wanted to play.
He said: “First of all I cannot choose, second, 16 teams, strong teams, some of them coming from the Champions League.
“If I could choose I would choose not to travel a lot, because the next round we have Chelsea in between the two matches, Middlesbrough away after the second match.
“So if you give me something like Krasnodar, or some very far destination, I would prefer Lyon – two-hour flight – I would prefer something close.”
Given United do have so many games, it’s hard to blame Mourinho for those sentiments, and it seems that he will have his work cut out for him, even this weekend, with several injuries ahead of the EFL Cup final.
Wining the first trophy of the season would be a huge coup for United, and give the players a much needed boost ahead of a long, long list of fixtures and a fight for the top four.
