Manchester United are on a roll.

Sixth place is looking assured despite a rocky start to life under Jose Mourinho and the players are finally starting to click.

Despite that, Anthony Martial is still on the fringes of the side, and struggling to impress Jose Mourinho apparently.

The winger was incredible against Middlesbrough, yet failed to get onto the field against West Ham – but according to Mourinho, it was through no fault of his own.

Mourinho said: “I had people on the bench fresh to bring on. Mata, Rashford, they brought a different intensity to the game.

“I had Martial to come on but I preferred to go with Smalling because of the risks we had taken before.

“I knew that Slaven would bring on Carroll for the last period of the game and Carroll is not for Carrick, he is for a real central defender.”

Comments like that from Mourinho should move to stop speculation that Martial may leave – and also serve to boost the player’s confidence.
