Jose Mourinho Backs Liverpool For The Premier League Title BEFORE Manchester City Win
Jose Mourinho sensationally backed Liverpool to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season BEFORE watching the Reds thrash the current champions 3-1 at Anfield. The result leaves Jürgen Klopp’s men eight points clear at the top, only City and Manchester United have held similar leads at this stage of the season and both sides went on to lift the title, something Liverpool are looking to do for the first time in 30 years.

The home side raced into a two-goal lead through Fabinho and Mohamed Salah, before Sadio Mane added a third in the second half. Bernardo Silva pulled one back late on but it wasn’t enough as City’s miserable Anfield record continues. They haven’t won their since 2003, and now face an uphill battle to retain their league crown for a third successive season. There was VAR controversy as City thought there was a handball in the build up to the first goal, while there were calls for offside for the second.
Mourinho, working on the game for Sky Sports alongside former City skipper Vincent Kompany, can be seen in this video explaining to the Belgian his thoughts about the title race. He claims there is little to choose between the sides anymore and, while admitting a City win would keep them in touching distance of Liverpool, an eight-point gap would be an unassailable lead.
Upcoming fixtures appear tougher for Pep Guardiola’s men too, which could see them increase their lead before Christmas. City clawed the Reds back last season though, so they won’t lose their belief that something special could still happen in the league, despite a widely-held belief that Guardiola is targeting the Champions League trophy this season. That would be City’s first ever win or that competition.
It does appear that is may finally be Liverpool’s year this season. Klopp’s men are still unbeaten and don’t look likely to lose anytime soon. They’ve certainly got the Special One’s backing, that’s for sure.
