Gordon Elliott will head to Cheltenham on Saturday, a day earlier than originally planned. He will walk the course before declarations are made for Tuesday’s card to decide which race Envoi Allen goes to.
With plenty of rain around Cheltenham, the ground is expected to be soft for the entire meeting next week.
Envoi Allen has only ever ran over two miles under rules, the Ballymore is an additional five furlongs. His trainer is concerned that 2m5f in soft ground with the Cheltenham hill is not ideal, which would mean his horse running on Tuesday in the opening race of the festival, the Supreme Novice Hurdle.
