Football’s gone mad: West Brom quote Arsenal astronomical fee for defender Jonny EvansPublished August 23, 2016
Football has officially gone bonkers.
The transfer silly season is really starting to take shape as we enter the last week of this summer’s transfer window.
As we get closer to deadline, selling clubs are taking advantage of the desperation of other sides, in a bid to extract extortionate amounts of money for their players.
The latest news coming out of West Brom suggests they can smell blood in Arsenal’s desperate pursuit of a central defender.
It’s well known by now that Arsene Wenger must add another centre-back to his squad, with the long-term injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista.
The club have so far been frustrated in their pursuit of Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi, with the La Liga side’s £40m valuation of the defender proving to be a stumbling block.
It’s thought that Wenger has now turned his attention closer to home, and is apparently keen on landing the West Brom defender.
But according to the Telegraph, the Baggies have told Arsenal that they are unwilling to sell the 28-year-old for anything less than £25m.
£25m for Jonny Evans? Football has officially gone mad.
But best of all, Arsenal may end up having to pay it.
