Everton want 'Israeli Cristiano Ronaldo': Eran Zahavi on Toffees radarPublished April 25, 2016
Everton are eyeing up a move for prolific Maccabi Tel Aviv attacker Eran Zahavi as the Toffees look to strengthen their front-line this summer.
Talk of a deal to bring in a fresh striking option has led many, including our free bets experts, to believe that the Goodison Park side could struggle to keep hold of Belgian ace Romelu Lukaku though interest in Zahavi is said to be unrelated to speculation over the former Chelsea striker’s Everton future.
Zahavi has netted 42 goals in all competitions this season with eight of those coming in Champions League action, albeit seven of those coming in the qualifying rounds.
The Israeli international spent a season at Serie A side Palermo before moving to Maccabi Tel Aviv in January 2013 having previously represented arch-rivals Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Zahavi has been dubbed the ‘Israeli Cristiano Ronaldo’ due to his phenomenal strike rate in recent seasons, his tally of 119 goals in 160 appearances having helped Maccabi Tel Aviv to three successive domestic titles.
Everton have been heavily reliant upon Lukaku to lead the line up front and the burly Belgian has not been found wanting but one can well see why Roberto Martinez, who has been linked with the sack in recent weeks (via the Metro), may have taken an interest in Zahavi.
