Eric Bailly has essentially confirmed Victor Lindelof's move to Man UnitedPublished January 09, 2017
Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has essentially confirmed Victor Lindelof’s move to Old Trafford. The Benfica centre-half has been linked with a transfer for weeks and official confirmation of a deal could be close. The development comes after Bailly admitted that he was looking forward to playing alongside Lindelof in a chat with Swedish football site Fotbollskanalen.
Jose Mourinho has said that he won’t sign a defender in January despite Marcos Rojo picking up an injury during the 4-0 FA Cup win over Reading.
With Bailly representing Ivory Coast at AFCON, it leaves Mourinho with only two recognised senior central defenders in Jones and Smalling.
Bailly welcomed the potential competition, saying: “I hope to play with him. Hopefully, he will help us. He is a very good player. He has great qualities and will certainly do well if he comes to us. We have many good central defenders – Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones – but I hope I get to play with Lindelof.
“I don’t have a guaranteed place and I know I have to be good to play. We’re all fighting to play. I think we have done well. We have done our best. The day we get to play, if it comes, we must take advantage of that opportunity. I think we would fit well together.”
