Egyptian voters attempt to elect Mo Salah as president
Mo Salah is a cult hero both on Merseyside and in his country of Egypt, and while it’s always been clear he’s loved by the people there, it’s now been confirmed.
That’s because during the presidential election, over a million people decided to spoil their ballot slips – and vote for Salah instead.
The spoiling of the ballots was in part a protest, and the voters decided to use Salah’s name to do that.
The other two names on the ballot, Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, the winner, and Moussa Mustafa Moussa, were crossed out and voters decided to put their national team hero in the box instead.
In fact, Salah came in second in the vote – but lost out to the eventual winner, who got over 92% of the voters to back him.
Salah will of course become an even greater hero to the people of Egypt if he can get their side into the latter stages of the World Cup, a tournament he of course dragged them to, with the penalty he scored sending them to Russia come the summer of 2018.
Before that, he will of course be focusing on getting Liverpool to the semi-finals of the Champions League and making sure they finish as high in the Premier League as possible to boot.
