Edinson Cavani rejects massive PSG pay-off to let Neymar take penalties
Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani has rejected a huge payoff from the club to allow Neymar Jr to take penalties.
This comes following the pair’s dispute during the game against Lyon last week in which Neymar attempted to take the penalty off Cavani, something he swiftly rejected, much to the Brazilian’s disappointment.
Throughout the rest of the game, it became a competition of who could take the most set pieces, with Neymar taking several off Cavani, something which visibly angered the player during and after the game.
The Urugyuan striker was seen storming out of the ground after the game and refused to answer any of the media’s questions, leading to questions and suspicions of a bust-up between the two star players.
Last week it was reported that Neymar called a meeting with the first-team squad to apologise to both the player and his teammates, aided by Thiago Silva who stood in as a translator to ensure the full squad understood.
Now, Cavani has reportedly rejected the chance to be paid off by PSG to allow Neymar to take up penalty duty, something which he will certainly not be happy with and has rejected.
PSG offered €1mil to Cavani so that he lets Neymar takes penalties but Cavani said no. Did it really have to come to this? Sad!— Aysha Ridzuan (@ayshardzn) September 25, 2017
That comes in the form of a €1million boost, a huge amount of money to just give the penalty-taking duties to Neymar.
To emphasise just how big that bonus is, that is equal to the amount that he would receive if he finished as the clubs top goalscorer for the season.
While issues between Neymar and Cavani look to have been resolved, it could well continue should the club and Neymar continue to try and overthrow the striker.
