Dimitar Berbatov has backed TWO of his former clubs to finish above Manchester City this season, with the Bulgarian claiming Manchester United will lead Tottenham to win a 14th Premier League title.
United and Spurs have both struggled in the summer transfer window, which closes on Thursday. Only Fred and Diogo Dalot have been brought in as first team options for Jose Mourinho, while Mauricio Pochettino has been unable to bring in anybody.
Yet, Berbatov claims they will both finish above Pep Guardiola’s City side, who won the title with a record tally of 100 points in May.
“The top four will be the same as last season but in this order – Manchester United, Spurs, Manchester City, and Liverpool,” he said.
“I was going to say Chelsea because of the “new manager” effect, the team start to perform better especially the first couple of matches, but I think Liverpool will finish above them because they’ve bought more talented players, so I’ll stick to the same four as last year.”
Berbatov ended his career in England with a spell at Fulham, and though they are newly promoted, he expects them to aim higher than 17th this season.
“Whatever Fulham do this season, I don’t want to believe they are happy with just staying up.
“I want them to have targets to achieve more, now they’re back in the League.
“They have a young squad, I know Slavisa Jokanovic and he knows how to do the job. I can see them doing well and putting fight onto the pitch.”
