Liverpool and Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter in the aftermath of the Merseyside club’s thrilling 4-3 victory at the Emirates on Sunday.
All the talk pre-match was focused around both sides’ leaky defences, and those thoughts were certainly proved right, as fans were treated to a real classic, featuring some outstanding goals and some rather woeful defending.
Theo Walcott gave Arsenal the lead, just over a minute after seeing his spot-kick saved by Simon MIgnolet in the Liverpool goal.
It looked like Arsene Wenger’s side would be going into half-time with a one-goal lead, but a delightful Philippe Coutinho free-kick, drew the away side level on the stroke of half-time, and the Brazilian’s piece of magic, was ultimately a defining point in the match.
Liverpool started the second half in the ascendancy, and roared into a 4-1 lead with three goals in 14 minutes, thanks to Adam Lallana, Coutinho and Sadio Mane on his Premier League debut for the Reds.
Sub Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers pulled goals back for Arsenal to set up a grandstand finish but they couldn’t find another to avoid a repeat of their first day loss to West Ham last season.
For Arsenal fans, it must have felt like same story, different day, with the Gunners failing to win their opening day fixture for the sixth time in seven seasons, whilst Liverpool on the other hand, continue their impressive run of opening day results.
Judging by the reaction on Twitter, it appears to be all doom and gloom in North London, whilst over on Merseyside, there is real hope of seeing Jurgen Klopp’s side produce something very special this season.
