Comical: Arsene Wenger confirms Takuma Asano to go out on loan after failing to get a work permit [Tweets]Published August 21, 2016
Arsenal fans are having a transfer window nightmare!
The North London club have been the butt of all jokes recently with their unfruitful pursuit of big name players this summer, with only Granit Xhaka and unknown Japenese forward Takuma Asano the only arrivals at the Emirates so far.
But if you thought things could only get better, then you were wrong, as somehow Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has managed to make a rather embarrassing screw up.
The Arsenal boss has confirmed that Asano, signed for £5million from Sanfrecce Hiroshima earlier this summer will miss the whole of the 2016/17 season after the Japan international failed to a secure work permit.
The 21-year-old has represented his country at senior level on five occasions and impressed for the Japanese Olympic team during this month’s tournament in Brazil, but hasn’t met the requirements to feature in the Premier League and will be sent out on loan this season, with a move to Germany or Spain reportedly on the cards.
Pressed on why Asanano’s work permit had been rejected, Wenger replied: ‘Because he didn’t cost £50 million.’
In the aftermath of this revelation Arsenal and rival fans took to Twitter to have their say on this transfer embarrassment.
Wenger did say Asano was "one for the future". Just didn't say in what country and for what team. Still, we made a few quid in shirt sales.— Highbury Harry (@BlackScarfAFC) August 20, 2016
