Chelsea will be furious with Cristiano Ronaldo after he wrecked transferPublished January 11, 2017
Chelsea will be fuming with Cristiano Ronaldo after the Real Madrid superstar ruined a transfer deal for the Blues, Confidential Colombia reports. James Rodriguez was spotted at the British Embassy in Colombia in December.
It fuelled transfer rumours and according to this Colombian source, the playmaker was on the verge of a switch to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are believed to have made a €90 million offer. Real Madrid accepted the bid but knew that it wasn’t a done deal until James accepted the move. They had been there before. Inter Milan made a similarly attractive offer last summer. On that occasion, James decided to stick it out and fight for his place.
After failing to hold down a spot in the team several months later, his resolve had worn away. He was strongly considering Premier League football before Ronaldo intervened. One of his closest friends at the club, Ronaldo convinced James to pass on the move. The out-of-favour attacker obliged despite Chelsea offering a salary hike.
