Chelsea want £112m pair in January swoop as Roman Abramovich looks to back Antonio Conte in transfer market
Chelsea have set their sights on two top targets as Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his squad after a faltering start to the campaign.
The Daily Telegraph claim that the Blues will make a move for £77m rated Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann and Conte is also looking to bring in AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, who could set the West London club back as much as £35m.
Chelsea started the season with three successive wins but have since secured a draw away at Swansea City before suffering defeats at home to Liverpool and away at London rivals Arsenal.
This summer Conte spent extensively to bring in the likes of N’Golo Kante, Michy Batshuayi, Marcos Alonso and David Luiz but owner Roman Abramovich will not have been overly pleased with how the current season has panned out thus far.
Griezmann could be tempted by a big money move to Chelsea, where no doubt he could secure a massive pay-rise.
The French forward finished as the top-scorer at Euro 2016 and is joint top-scorer in La Liga in 2016/17 and more than capable of adding real quality in the final third.
German international Rudiger only moved to the Italian capital last August but again could be tempted by the allure of a move to the Premier League, though would presumably seek guarantees in relation to a regular first-team spot.
By all accounts a move for Rudiger could occur in January though any swoop for Griezmann wouldn’t happen before next summer.
The likes of Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic came in for a great deal of criticism after Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat against Arsenal and clearly John Terry is in the last throes of his career and as such a further defensive addition is a wise option to consider.
